I’m excited to officially announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Wayne County. This department has come a long way over the past 15 years, thanks to the strong leadership of Sheriff Jeff Cappa, who established a clear mission rooted in professionalism, transparency, and community service—and to Sheriff Randy Retter, who has carried those values forward with determination and vision. I’ve had the privilege of working closely with both men, and I look forward to building on the solid foundation they created while preparing our office to meet the challenges and opportunities of the years ahead.
For nearly three decades, I’ve served this community in various roles within the Sheriff’s Office—first as a Reserve and Mounted Patrol Deputy, and now as your Chief Deputy. I’ve had the privilege of working under five Sheriffs. Most recently, Jeff Cappa and Randy Retter. Both of whom built a legacy of professionalism, transparency, and community service. I intend to build on that foundation while continuing to move the agency forward.
While I didn’t attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, I’ve been a certified law enforcement officer since 1995 and have consistently exceeded training requirements. Since 2004 alone, I’ve completed more than 1,100 hours of ILETB-approved training—much of it focused on leadership and supervision. My background also includes a degree in Physics from Grinnell College and professional experience in IT, consulting, and business turnaround. I helped launch Wayne County’s first internet service and later worked for the county's IT department, specializing in systems that support the Sheriff’s Office and 911 center.
As a volunteer, I helped transform the Mounted Patrol from a parade-only unit into a professionally trained and operational team used in both community policing and targeted enforcement. I set high standards for reserves and mounted officers and contributed nearly 10,000 volunteer hours before being appointed Chief Deputy in 2022. Through it all, I’ve been known as someone who rolls up my sleeves and does the work—quietly and consistently.
If elected Sheriff, I will prioritize transparency, efficiency in the face of growing technology demands, and a renewed focus on leadership and supervision training. I believe officer training must evolve to reflect community needs, and that accreditation is key to maintaining a professional, accountable department. I’m ready to lead with integrity, experience, and a clear vision for the future of law enforcement in Wayne County.
